Midjourney Alternatives 2026
Midjourney is a subscription image generator that bills by GPU time instead of by image count. This page lists the tools a Midjourney user might compare it with: one option from this site’s 2026 ranking and three added products, each taken from its own official pricing page.
Short answer
Midjourney’s published plans start at $10 a month on Basic, which includes 3.3 hours of Fast GPU time, and reach $30 on Standard, which adds unlimited Relax-mode images. Stealth mode, which keeps generations private, is listed only on Pro and Mega (H13, H14). Those three facts decide most comparisons on cost and privacy.
The alternatives on this page bill differently. Krea and OpenArt sell monthly units or credits, FLUX sells usage with no subscription, and Recraft sells ownership terms that depend on the plan. None of them is a like-for-like replacement for Midjourney’s GPU-hour model, and no per-image cost is calculated here.
Options compared
The table lists the 2026 ranking entries that are not excluded from this section, followed by three products added from their own pricing pages. Prices are the list prices each vendor shows or a source records; the sources are named in the fact register.
| option | listing | plan facts as sourced |
|---|---|---|
| Recraft | 2026 ranking #4 | free plan images: owned by Recraft · public gallery · no commercial license; paid plan images: full ownership · commercial rights · private; billing: monthly or annual (annual saves 20%) |
| OpenArt | added from official pricing page | Per seat, monthly then annual: Starter $14 then $13; Plus $34 then $27; Pro $56 then $44; Wonder $240 then $175 (H6). Monthly credits 4,000 to 106,000 (H7). Commercial use rights from Plus upward (H8). |
| Krea | added from official pricing page | Monthly then yearly: Free $0 with 100 units a day; Basic $9 then $5; Pro $35 then $21; Max $105 then $63 (H17). The Free plan lists a commercial license (H18). |
| FLUX (Black Forest Labs) | added from official pricing page | Pay as you go, with no subscriptions or seat fees (H1). Calculator example $0.048 for one 768×768 image (H2). Open-weights deployment described (H4). |
Which option fits which need
Recraft
Pick it when ownership of the output matters more than the artistic look. Recraft’s pricing page says paid-plan images are fully owned, carry commercial rights and stay private, while images on the Free plan are owned by Recraft, appear in a public gallery and carry no commercial license (H26). Zapier places it toward graphic design work (F7). It is the one option on this page that comes from the 2026 ranking.
OpenArt
Pick it when you want one browser studio with several models and character tools under one subscription. The pricing page lists consistent characters, one-click stories and access to more than 100 premium models on every paid plan (H9). Commercial rights start at Plus, so Starter is not the plan for client work (H8).
Krea
Pick it when you want a free tier that already includes a commercial license, or a cheaper monthly entry than Midjourney’s $10 Basic. Krea’s Free plan gives 100 units a day and lists commercial use (H17, H18). Basic is $9 a month, or $5 billed yearly (H17). Krea’s prices are per compute unit, so the output per dollar is not the same as Midjourney’s GPU hours.
FLUX (Black Forest Labs)
Pick it when you would rather pay per output than hold a monthly plan. The vendor says there are no subscriptions and no seat fees (H1). Its footer lists separate non-commercial and self-hosted license terms (H4), so read the license that applies to a given model before any commercial use.
How to choose in one trial
Run the same small job on Midjourney and on the option you are considering. Compare the time to a usable image, the privacy setting, the commercial terms on the plan you would actually buy, and the cost of the tier that includes what you need. One trial on your own work tells you more than any table on this page.
Limits of this page
- Midjourney’s own pages returned 403 in our checks. Its figures come from the plan comparison it publishes, as shown in a search result on 2026-10-16 (H13), and from third-party guides that quote it. Confirm the current plan on the vendor site before you buy.
- Midjourney bills in Fast GPU hours, OpenArt and Krea bill in credits or units, and FLUX bills per output. The prices above are list prices, not a cost per image, and this page does not convert them into one.
- No hands-on test is included. The order of the extra options is not a ranking. The only ranked item is Recraft, which keeps its 2026 position.
This page is not affiliated with Midjourney and is not an official page. Each claim names its source in the method and the fact register. The ranking itself is on the 2026 awards results page.
FAQ
Is there a free Midjourney alternative?
Zapier reports that Midjourney’s free trial is paused (F3), and the plan comparison we captured lists no free plan (H13). Among the options here, Krea lists a Free plan with 100 units a day and a commercial license (H17, H18). Check each free plan’s limits before you rely on it.
Which option is cheapest each month?
On annual billing, Midjourney Basic is $8 a month (H13), Krea Basic is $5 a month (H17) and OpenArt Starter is $13 a month (H6). The plans include different things, so compare the output and the usage rights each one grants, not the headline figure.
Can I use the images commercially?
It depends on the plan and the vendor. Krea lists a commercial license on its Free plan (H18). OpenArt lists commercial use rights from Plus upward (H8). Recraft’s Free-plan images carry no commercial license (H26). Midjourney lists General Commercial Terms on every paid plan (H13), and third-party sources report a $1,000,000 revenue rule that requires Pro or Mega for company use (H16). Read each vendor’s terms; this site does not give a legal conclusion.
